Collaborative care from a doctor in Mayfield – GP Registrar
Dr Lauren Groenendijk is a doctor in Mayfield and GP Registrar consulting at Mayfield Medical Connection in Newcastle. She enjoys caring for people across the breadth of general practice and believes that good healthcare begins with knowing the person, not simply naming the disease.
Lauren takes a holistic approach and does not view mental and physical health as separate. Her consultations are collaborative and non-judgmental, with patients actively involved in developing treatment plans that reflect their concerns, circumstances and priorities.
She has a particular interest in mental health and provides neurodiversity-affirming care. As a doctor in Mayfield, Lauren welcomes patients who would like the opportunity to explore complex, longstanding or multiple concerns. Where possible, she encourages patients to book a long appointment for these issues so there is adequate time to understand the full picture and consider options together.
She is committed to creating a respectful and inclusive environment in which patients feel heard, believed and able to participate meaningfully in decisions about their care.
Lauren previously worked as a sexual health registrar and has completed the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health. She is comfortable providing care across a broad range of sexual and reproductive health concerns, including PrEP prescribing, and welcomes timely appointments for patients experiencing new or symptomatic sexual health concerns.
She also has experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Through her own experience of living for years with unexplained symptoms before an immune-related condition could be identified, Lauren understands how frustrating and exhausting a prolonged diagnostic journey can be. She believes that care should not be placed on hold while everyone waits for the perfect label.
Alongside appropriate investigation, she works with patients to improve symptoms, functioning and quality of life throughout the journey.
Outside medicine, Lauren enjoys creative pursuits of almost every variety, including baking and intricately decorating cakes, painting, jewellery making and occasional floristry. She is also cat mum to Basil and Clover, a role that can feel remarkably similar to another full-time job.
